If you are on a Candida diet, you should know that there is a better way to permanently treat chronic Candida infections. It is not pragmatic to try and avoid eating Candida as it is so ubiquitous, and exists on the surface of fruits, vegetables, and grains. The Traditional Candida Diet

Candida consumes sugar in order to grow and multiply. If your body has elevated amounts of sugars for Candida to feed on, there is a greater chance your body will become inundated with the fungi. According to a study; conducted by Connecticut gynecologist Benson J. Horowitz, Stanley W. Edelstein, and Leonard Lippman; dietary sugar intake was analysed in respect to Candida vulvovaginitis. The study found, that by reducing the intake of dairy products, artificial sweeteners, and sucrose caused a significant reduction in the incidence and severity of Candida vulvovaginitis.

According to Dr. Doris Rapp; symptoms of Candida infection, such as vaginal discharge; can occur only after eating highly sugary foods (such as a candy bar). A study conducted at St. Jude Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, illustrated how ingesting sugar could cause Candida to grow and multiply significantly. In the study, thirty-six mice had their gastrointestinal tract colonized with Candida. One group was given just water while another group of mice were given water with the sugar dextrose; a third group was given water with xylitol. A drug, cyclophosphamide, was given to the mice to weaken their immune systems.

The study found that the invasion of Candida, was approximately 200 times greater in the mice which were fed the dextrose, than in the control group or xylitol group. Consequently, the study concluded that ingesting dextrose might increase the growth and colonization of Candida albicans.

What to Eat on your Diet

To discourage an infection of Candida, you can put yourself on a Candida diet. Candida free diets are difficult to follow, and the strict guidelines are often not able to be maintained by those who follow them. The main tenant of this diet, is to limit sugar intake. The less sugar you ingest, the less food will be directly available to Candida.

Here are some guidelines you can go by to form your own Candida diet:

  • Eat low sugar yogurt containing live cultures of L. acidophilus to help mitigate Candida overgrowth.
  • Proteins are good for you and are an excellent alternative to carbohydrates. Your body needs proteins to synthesize various tissues and keep you functioning properly.
  • Make sure the carbohydrates you do ingest (as we all need some) are complex carbohydrates, and not simple sugars.
  • Eliminate all the simple sugar you can from your diet. Cane sugar, beet sugar, corn syrup, honey, molasses, and other simple sugars are great food sources for Candida. By reducing the amount of food available to Candida, you can starve the fungus and help to keep it from overgrowing and infesting your body.
  • Many vegetables are great foods to include in a low sugar diet; and, vegetables contain healthy nutrients as well.
  • You can experiment with eliminating foods containing yeast, for a couple of weeks in the diet. Then, include them again to see if they really cause you any trouble.

Better yet, instead of starving Candida to kill it, you can use natural Candida killing items (such as herbs and essential oils) to kill the yeast. Starving Candida should not be required, possibly, for most people. Starving kills it; but, so do natural antifungals!
